You Must Always Start With the Basics

blogpost thumb

Start with the basics

When you look at how people are training and what people are doing, does it really make sense?

Think about it.

For instance, if you have a 70-year-old retired fireman who has had 2 shoulder surgeries, and has trouble just walking, does he really need to be doing Olympic lifts, heavy plyometric movements, sprinting all the time… Probably not.

They need to be doing movement-based items; things that are going to help complement them moving better, and basic FUNDAMENTAL strength movements: push-ups, squats, single-leg deadlifts, etc.

This is something we spend a lot of time on within our business too. Everyone becomes really good at the fundamentals.

Think about it.

If you’re not good at the fundamentals, why would you start doing all the complex things? #thinkaboutit

How to Find Ease in a Stressful Time

blogpost thumb

What are you really thankful for?

One of the things I always try to ask my clients, family and friends is that when you’re feeling down, or if you’re feeling really up, think about what you are really thankful for.

It’s incredible when you start to put on paper the people, the places the experiences that you’re most thankful for, how much better you feel about wherever it is that you are.

For instance, when we were about to have our little baby, Harper. I can remember thinking about the extra stress. Extra care for her. My wife and I having to add another person to our lives.

What was that going to be like for my wife’s and my relationship?

What was that going to be like for my business?

How much time would having a child take me away from my business?

How much time am I going to have for myself?

It was a very stressful time because you don’t know what to expect before your child comes into the world.

But then I began writing things down leading up to her birth about what I was thankful for. Or I would sit and reflect on it. Now whether that is journaling, prayer, meditation, or even thinking to yourself, what are those 3-5 things you’re most thankful for?

And I would sit there and write those things down and it occurred to me, things are good. Things are wonderful. And even when you’re in a stressful situation, there are still amazing things all around you that we need to be thankful for.

And that’s the thing that always makes me feel better and I always suggest to everyone else, to reflect on what’s going GOOD whether you’re going through a stressful time or a really good time. For instance, with our daughter, we were so very excited to have her come into our lives, but it was also a stressful time in our lives. It was a good stress but still, stressful. I’m just being honest.

So remember, whether things are good or bad, stressful or at ease, there are always things in our lives we can be thankful for. Focus on those things and you’ll find yourself living a more happy, grateful, stress-free life. #thinkaboutit

Stress is not what happens to us; stress is a response to what happens to us. And a response is a choice.

How do you want to be remembered?

blogpost thumb

What do you want to be remembered for? What do you think really matters the most to you? Have you ever sat and thought about it? Have you taken that time to look at each day, find out what you really want to do, and find a way to get through it?

A lot of times we get caught up in the moment. We get caught up in.. we have to get this done.. or we have to go ahead and do this.. or if i don’t do this….

Does it really matter? Seriously! Does that really matter? It really doesn’t.

What does matter is when you take that time to think about what you want to do, how you want to be remembered, how you want to live each day..

It’s all a process.

You have to take that time to figure it out for yourself. If you don’t take that time to figure out where you want this day to go, you’re lost. You’re completely lost. And the only person to blame for not taking that time is you.

Think about it.
